September 2013

On Friday, August 30 we were outside playing in the swimming pool when I noticed a slight rash on Nolan’s face, back, back of his neck, and belly. I thought it might have been from the heat/suntan lotion/rash guard/etc. so I didn’t worry about it too much. When it didn’t go away before bed and it appeared worse, I called the doctor. Dr. Huggins was on call and she said that based upon what I was describing it sounded like Roseola, a virus. She advised me to make sure he’s drinking plenty of fluids and said this is common after the fever he had just a few days before. She said that it should go away within a day or two. Luckily it went away the next day and Nolan seemed to be doing better, but still wasn’t 100% back to normal, aka still wasn’t eating like he normally does.

We went to a picnic at Great Aunt Lynne’s house for Labor Day. Nolan didn’t get a tick this time! It was hot again, just like it was for 4th of July. We had a great time and spent the rest of the weekend hanging out at home. On the last day of summer break, Nolan and I played in the pool that Aunt Barbara gave us.

He loves the hose:

His “Mommy won’t let me do what I want to do” fake cry face:

This summer went by way too quickly. We played outside a lot, spent time with great friends, and enjoyed the activities State College has to offer in the summer. Good-bye summer 2013, we’ll miss you!

My first day of school was September 3 and when I got Nolan up in the morning, he felt hot. Unfortunately he had a fever again and I had to send him to his Babi’s house sick. He had a fever on and off on September 4 as well. Nevin ended up taking him to the doctor on September 5 and found out that he had a different virus, right after he got rid of the Roseola virus. Luckily Nolan got better within a few days after he went to the doctor and is now back to his normal self, aka eating everything in sight!

Here we are on the second day of school:

September 14 – Nolan’s First Steps

Nolan took his first steps! Mimi and Pop were visiting and we were getting ready to go out to dinner to celebrate the completion of my master’s degree. We were hanging out in the living room and Nolan just stood up in the middle of the room and took 4 steps on his own. Mimi, Pop, Nevin, and I all got to see his first steps! I laughed, cheered, and cried all at the same time! He’s walking more often every day and he’s getting pretty good at keeping his balance.

September 14 – Master’s Degree from Wilkes University

Here is the King Family celebrating mommy’s graduation from Wilkes University with a master’s degree. We went out to dinner at Kelly’s and celebrated all of my hard work with drinks and delicious food.

September 28 – Jon’s 30th Birthday

On September 28, we went to Jon’s and Katie’s to celebrate Jon’s 30th birthday. We got to see Addy and her family. Nolan also got to play with two 3 1/2 year old cousins of Jon’s. It was a beautiful fall day and it was great to celebrate with friends.

I ran The Color Run 5K with teacher friends. I ran with Jamie and we stopped to walk a few times, but we had a great time. We went to Champ’s for dinner afterwards. It was a great afternoon out with friends. Here are my before and after pictures:
